eBay hires a Google vet to oversee engineering

EBay Inc. has hired Louis Perrochon as its vice president of engineering.
After spending 11 years at Google Inc., Perrochon will now “lead a team of engineers who are responsible for driving global product development across a variety of commerce specific domains,” the online marketplace says. His duties will involve such areas as payments, advertising, selling and “multiscreen shopping,” eBay says.
Perrochon started at Google in 2003 as an engineer overseeing “software development, hardware and mechanical engineering,” according to his LinkedIn profile. His time at Google included work with Android, YouTube and Google Earth, most recently leading engineering for Google mapping tools.
“Louis brings depth and diversity of technical talent to his new role, including leading and working with hundreds of engineers globally and serving multiple content and advertising partners,” says eBay chief product officer R.J. Pittman. “Louis is a world-class engineering talent. I’m excited for eBay and excited for our customers, and I look forward to working with Louis to reimagine and reinvent the world of commerce.”
News of Perrochon’s hiring comes shortly after RetailMeNot Inc., an affiliate and web coupon company, hired Michael Jones away from eBay Inc. to lead its relationship development efforts with big retailers and brands. Jones was vice president of merchant development at eBay.
